Doctors Hospital’s Newest Projects Enhance the Facilities and Services
The new Women’s Center entrance is part of the $13 million expansion, adding eight ICU beds and constructing 4,000 square feet for a cardiac rehabilitation unit.
Building on Our Commitment to the Community
“As the community grows, we are committed to making upgrades and renovations to meet our patients’ needs,” says James Resendez, CEO of Doctors Hospital. Recent projects include renovations to the emergency room and an expansion of the ICU and cardiac rehabilitation areas.
The emergency room at Doctors Hospital was renovated with new flooring and paint to support a welcoming environment for patients. “Going to the emergency room can be stressful,” says Resendez. “We want our patients to feel comfortable and well cared for, from the way the facilities are maintained to the high quality of services provided by our staff.”
Another important project at the hospital is the ICU and cardiac rehab expansion. This $13 million-plus project involved adding eight ICU beds and constructing 4,000 square feet for a cardiac rehabilitation unit. The grand opening was recently held on January 25.

“The expansion of Doctors Hospital’s ICU and Cardiac Rehabilitation is a result of the community’s support for our cardiovascular services,” states Resendez. “With hundreds of cardiac-related procedures a year, Doctors Hospital is leading the way in providing quality care right here at home.”
The new cardiac rehabilitation unit will support patients recovering from heart attacks, heart surgery and interventional procedures. The space has been designed with a number of special features and amenities, including:
- A walking track and specialized equipment like rehab treadmills, recumbent bikes and wall pulleys to help patients exercise safely
- A private conference room for support group meetings and education
- A spacious waiting area
- Men’s and women’s showers and lockers to accommodate busy schedules
- Increased cardiac rehab monitoring capacity to 12 patients at any given time
- Lots of windows for natural light
“This expansion and other initiatives support our efforts to provide comprehensive, quality care right here in the community,” says Resendez. “We want to ensure the best experience and outcomes for our patients and investing in our facilities will help us do that.”
Not only did we expand heart care facilities, we’re also expanding our outreach to the community through the Laredo Cardiac Support Group open to anyone who is affected by heart disease.
